Super Hot City Cordoba

As I wrote here before, Cordoba was really hot. I who don't use air conditioner in summer at all say so, so I think I can say it was pretty hot. Because I couldn't look around the city the other day, I came to see the city very early morning on the this day.

First I went to see the Roman bridge of Cordoba where I couldn't visit the other day. It was a very wide bridge made of stones, first built back in early 1st century BC.

I always think it would be much more interesting if I knew more about its history, but I am always forgettable or lazy to do some research later. However, even though I don't know much about it, the bridge and the view was so so beautiful. It must have been fascinating people for a long long time, I imagined. Which makes me feel I am a typical tourist.

After I went to and returned from the bridge, I visited Mezuquita (Mosque＝the place for worship) next. Actually, the history of Cordoba (and Spain) was very interesting. Because of its historical or geological reasons, many parts of Spain are influenced by either Muslim, Catholic or even both sometimes. Even the closed island like Japan got influenced by overseas, I assume this situation would happened easily for the countries connected by land.

This building, Mezuquita was actually the great symbol of mixed culture. Roughly speaking, it was first built as a the Muslim temple, but later converted to a Roman Church. Now it keeps these both aspects. It might be better idea to try the guide tour, I thought. I luckily found the Japanese guide tour, so I often listened the guide secretly.

It was pity that I couldn't draw much in Cordoba because of the hotness. It was very small but lovely city. There were so many things I wanted to draw. I think a half or1 day would be enough for main tourism, but I recommend season except summer for visiting Cordoba. Very beautiful but really hot.

前述した通り、コルドバはものすご暑い。真夏でもエアコンをつけずに過ごす私が暑いんだから、そうとう暑いのだ。故に初日はじっくり観光できなかったので、翌日、早朝から観光することにしてみた。

メインの歴史地区まで歩いて行き、昨日気になっていたけど暑すぎて近寄ることすらできなかったローマ橋に到着。それはとても幅が広い立派な石造りの橋で、その土台はなんと１世紀には完成していたのだとか。もっと歴史に詳しければ、「この頃はこんな時代でね…」なんて色々わかって数倍楽しめるんだろうな…といつも思うが、いつも後追いリサーチになってしまう自分が情けない。
ただ、細かいことがわからなくても、この橋とそこからのパノラマビューがとても美しいということはわかる。この橋はいつの時代の人々を魅了し続けてきたんだろうな…と考えるだけでなんだか浪漫を感じた。大抵の観光客なんてこんなもんだ。

橋を往復して、今度はメスキータを訪問することに。コルドバ（というかスペイン）の歴史は調べるとなかなか興味深く、その歴史的・地理的背景から、この国はいたるところでイスラム文化とカトリック文化が出たり入ったり混ざったり、複雑に絡み合っている。日本のような閉鎖的な島国でもよそ様の国の文化は入ってきていたのだから、陸続きならなおのことなのだろう。

このメスキータ（モスク＝イスラム教の礼拝堂）はまさにそのミックス文化の象徴のような場所で、ざっくりいうと、最初はイスラム教の寺院として建てられたものの、カトリックがメジャーになってきてからカテドラルも建設されたという、２つの宗教が同居する珍しい建物だった。非常に興味深い建物なので、宗教や歴史に詳しくないという方はガイドさんと一緒に見たほうが楽しめるような気もする。私はちょうど近くに日本語ガイドさんを発見したので、ちょいちょい盗み聞きをしながら見学楽しんだ。

残念なことに、あまりの暑さでコルドバでは絵を描くことができなかった。小さくまとまったとても可愛らしい街で、描きたい景色は山のようにあったので残念だった。メインの観光地を回るだけなら、半日〜１日くらいがちょうどいいが、やはり真夏は避けたほうがいいかもしれない。

6th Visit City Cordoba

After telling good bye to prettiest Granada, I went to the next destination Cordoba by ALSA. I shared taxi and arrived at bus stop 1 hour earlier. I am always worried too many things and arrived too early, but I think I don't need to hurry that much. 15 mins spare could be enough, I thought.

Anyway, 2 and a half hours later, I arrived at Cordoba where the main tourism spots are all registered as world heritage site. It was crazy hot but fortunately a very kind Airbnb host came to pick me up at the bus stop.

Around 5 o'clock, I went to the city. However, there were nobody outside. Literally nobody.
Why? Siesta? I thought. While I was walking thinking "isn't it too hot?", I find the thermometer.

Are you kidding? That's why there's nobody, I thought. Well, I kind of realized that it was really really hot, but I didn't think that much. However, actually Cordoba is very famous as the hottest city in Spain, I heard later.

Because I haven't done many research for each city, I didn't know the situation and came here. While I beard my bottled water changed boiled, I tried to enjoy the city.

Beside the weather, Cordoba was perfectly beautiful. Maybe that's because it's world heritage, there was no spray doodle like the other cities I visited.  Very very clean and lovely place.
I really wanted to look around more but felt expectation for kind of heatstroke so I had to go back. I swear myself to visit city tomorrow early morning.

可愛すぎたグラナダに惜しくもサヨナラを告げ、次の目的地コルドバへはALSAで向かった。とても親切なバルセロナ女性とタクシー相乗りでバス乗り場まで行き、１時間もの余裕を持ってバスが来るのをスタンバイ。心配性すぎてだいたい早すぎる到着だが、正直行ってこんなに余裕を持つ必要は全くない、１５分前くらいでいいと思う。

バスで約２時間半、なんとメインの観光スポットになる歴史地区が丸ごと世界遺産に登録されているという魅惑のコルドバに到着。親切なAirbnbホストが私のことを迎えにバス停まで車で来てくれた。
荷下ろしをして午後5時頃だっただろうか、いざ街へ繰り出すと、外には文字通り人っ子一人いなかった。なぜだろう？シエスタかな？しかし暑いな、なんてことを考えながら歩いていると、公園にある温度計に目が止まった。

冗談じゃない、どうりで誰もいないはずだ。先ほどから暑い暑いとは思っていたが、まさかこんなに暑いとは。それもそのはず、コルドバは、スペインでは夏一番暑いと有名な場所だったのだ。関東で言えばわざわざ真夏に熊谷に行くようなものだろう。

そんなことともつゆ知らず観光に来てしまった私、ペットボトルの水がほぼ熱湯に変わるのも我慢し、多少我慢してでもまずは１日目の観光を楽しもうと街を見て回った。

暑さはさておき、コルドバの街並みは本当に美しかった。世界遺産ということもあり、今まで回ってきた他の都市とは違って、スプレー落書きなどの人的被害もない本当に綺麗な場所だった。
もっと色々見て回りたかったのだが、本気で熱中症になりそうだったので残念ならが早めに切り上げ、明日早めに観光しようと心に誓ったのだった。

Prettiest Room in the World

Because I couldn't stay at the same place anymore, I moved to the next Airbnb in Granada located 15 mins walking away.

The host of my next stay is a very beautiful Spanish lady who had lived in Japan for a long time and speaks fluent Osaka-ben (Japanese dialect). She has this amazing taste of decoration, so everything in her flat was nothing but pretty. The room I stayed were fully colored in very Spanish red with many cute little indirect lightning.

Since people enjoy siesta in Granada too, I decided to stay and draw the room. I tended to use green or brown for other sketches, but this one made my sketchbook more fancy with much more pretty colors.

グラナダではずっと同じところに滞在できなかったので、最初の宿から歩いて１５分くらいのところにある別の場所へ移動することになった。

次のステイ先のホストさんは、以前長いこと日本に滞在していたということもあって、大阪弁を流暢に操るオモロイスペイン人女性だった。さらに彼女はずば抜けたセンスの持ち主で、とにかくお家全体がとんでもなく可愛らしい。私が滞在したお部屋は、全体がスペインらしい赤をモチーフとしたド派手な作りで、チャーミングな間接照明がきらきら光っていた。

ここでもお外がSiestaしているということもあり、この可愛らしいお部屋を描くことに。緑や茶色が多かったスケッチブックに素敵な差し色が入って、より一層華やかになった。

Temperature Tokyo VS Granada

People always warned me "Don't go to Spain in Summer" because it's too hot. However,  I didn't pay much attention for this because I am always sensitive to cold. Moreover, I even thought Tokyo could be worse...

Actually, summer in Granada was totally different from the one in Tokyo. Finally, I put everything into this report so if you are interested in, please read. That's what I felt about the weather difference in each countries.

結構たくさんの人が、「夏にスペインは行かないほうがいいんじゃないの？」と私を警告して来た。暑すぎるから、と。でも私はいつも極端な寒がりなので、暑さは特に問題にならないだろうと大して気にしていなかった。もっと言えば、絶対東京の方がタチ悪い暑さだろうとたかをくくっていた。

実際に、グラナダの夏は東京の夏とは全然違っていた。せっかくなのでその感想を描きレポートにまとめて見たので、ご興味あればぜひご覧ください。２都市の夏の違いについて、まとめです。

Alhambra in Granada

When I say I decided to go to Granada, people often asked me if I get the ticket for Alhambra. Because many people ask me that, I was so so wondering how great the place would be.

On the day I visited there, I charged my camera's battery, wore my cap, and was perfectly ready for visit. It took me about 15mins walking to get there. After I walked about a half way... I realized that I forgot to bring the battery...

Alhambra was a castle and fortress located at the top of the hill in Granada. Now it is decorated with many many plants and beautiful flowers. I always am amazed at how small and fine all the decorations are when I visit old buildings, but this place was definitely one of the most splendid one I have ever I visited.

To get into the main palace, entrance time was divided into groups. You need to be there on time on the ticket. Even though I really cared about this, I arrived there 15 mins late because it was huge and I got kind of lost. As a Japanese (very punctual people), I was really nervous being late and showing my ticket, but they let me in immediately. Actually there were so many people waiting for the next entrance time, so I felt very very lucky. I didn't even have to wait at all.

Because it was former fortress, it was literally huge. Therefore I didn't think it was busy or crowded, instead it was very clean with good repair. I wouldn't get bored at all even if I spend a whole day there. Now I really do understand why people care so much about the ticket. I highly recommend this splendid world heritage in Granada.

私がグラナダに滞在することになったというと、たくさんの人にアルハンブラ宮殿のチケットは予約したかということを聞かれた。本当にたくさんの人に聞かれたので、どんなに素敵な場所なんだろうと妄想を膨らませていた。

いよいよアルハンブラへ。カメラを充電し、帽子をかぶり、完全装備！歩いて１５分くらいで到着の予定だったのだが、半分くらい歩いたところで、まさかのバッテリー忘れに気がつく。ということで今回はiPhoneによる撮影。iPhoneいい仕事してくれた。

アルハンブラとは、起伏の激しいグラナダの中でもさらに上のてっぺんの丘の上にそびえ立つ昔の城塞都市で、現在は多くの緑と花々に囲まれたそれはそれは美しい宮殿だ。昔の建物はどれも細工が細かくて毎度驚かされるが、この宮殿はひときわ繊細な装飾がなされていたように思う。

メインの宮殿へは、入場時間が区切られているので気をつけていたのだが、造りが割と迷路みたいでわかりにくく、勝手に迷っていたせいで１５分も遅れてしまった。

時間に厳しいジャパニーズとしては、やはりこれはNGか…と恐る恐るチケットを見せたが、全くもって快く私を中へ入れてくれた。次の時間の入場を待つ人が仰山並んでいるのを横目に、一人だけスムーズに入場。逆に待たなくてよかったので、この時間ギリギリスタイルはみんなにおすすめしたい。

昔々は街だったということもあり、それはそれは非常に広大な宮殿だった。広いので観光客でごみごみした感じもなく、隅々まで手入れが施されているので一日中いても全く飽きることがない。ちゃんと前もってチケット取ったかどうか確認したくなる気持ちも十分に理解できる、素晴らしくオススメの世界遺産だった。

5th Visit City Granada

After saying goodbye to beautiest Barcelona, I started traveling to my next destination, Granada in Andalusia, Southern part of Spain. It is the city still having Islamic mood. I didn't have any specific ideas about Spain except Barcelona and Madrid, so Granada is my friend's recommendation.  Sometimes it is very interesting to visit somewhere without many research.

It takes about 1 and a half hours flight from Barcelona. There is a bus going to the city so I took it. It was about 20~30 mins bus ride. I get off at in front of Cathedral and walk for about 1km. It was super hot sunny day, but Granada was already really really pretty.

This time, I booked all my stays through Airbnb. Main points I really cared were the location, price but also room decorations or the view. My first stay in Granada seem to have very very nice view so I choose this one. Very beautiful Spanish lady welcomed me and she opened the room door... the view was much more beautiful than I expected.

素敵すぎたバルセロナに別れを告げ、次に目指す目的地はスペイン南部のアンダルシア州はグラナダ。イスラム文化の余韻を残す美しい街らしい。スペインも、有名なバルセロナやマドリードなどのメジャー都市以外の場所はよくわからなかったので、友人に勧められるがままにグラナダをチョイス。予備知識があまりないまま行ってみるのも、わくわくがたくさんあって面白いってもんだ。

こちらもバルセロナから飛行機で約１時間半。空港から市内へは、ちょうどいい時間帯に出発するバスが出ているのでそちらをチョイス。車で２０〜３０分くらいすると、メインの中心街へ到着する。

カテドラル前で降ろしてもらい、ステイ先まで１キロくらい歩く。日中なので日差しが暑かったけれど、グラナダは今まで見たどの都市よりも可愛らしく親しみに溢れている街だった。

今回の旅は、ステイ先全部をAirbnbで選んだが、ポイントは立地と値段の他に、内装や眺めを重視していた。特に、グラナダ１軒目の宿はとにかく眺めが良さそうだったのでチョイス。生粋のスペイン人で美しいホストに迎え入れてもらい、部屋に入ると予想以上に美しい景色が広がっていた。

Beautiful Barcelona

From right to left, everywhere in Barcelona is so so beautiful.

Tourism spots located literally everywhere in the city, so we took a walk a lot. Comparing taking metro or bus, walking seems better way in many cases because transportation takes time for waiting or changes. Because of this many many walking, I walked more than 34 thousands steps a day. It was my newest record.

Because they have siesta especially from 2 - 5 pm, most shops were closed. Personally, I thought it would be better to keep cafes open, so then they can get more guests I thought. However, this is Spain, just follow the lead.

While they are having siesta, it is better to go back your stay or stay inside museum or something. Therefore, I often went back to my stay. Not only because I was tired, but also wanted to draw there. My stay in Barcelona was so so pretty. 

右を見ても左を見ても冗談のように美しい街、バルセロナ。

観光地が街中にごろごろ点在していて実質より大きく感じる街だが、バスやメトロを利用するとかえって乗り換えなんかに時間を取られるせいで、結果、徒歩と大して変わらないんじゃないかということになり、とにかく歩いた。歩いて歩いて歩き回った結果、なんと歩数が３万４千歩を超えるという衝撃の運動量だったことを後々知ることになる。

しかしこの土地では、日中は（本当に）シエスタする店がたくさんあるため、特に２〜５時くらいの間はお店がやっていない。正直、逆にカフェなんかは開けっ放しにしておいたら客が来てくれていいんじゃないのかな…なんて思ったりもしたけど、ここはスペイン。

観光客はシエスタ中はステイ先に戻るか、美術館なんかをぶつけるのがベストだろう。そんなわけで市内に滞在していた私はしょっちゅうステイ先に戻っていた。単に疲れたからというのもあるけど、ステイ先のリビングがあまりに可愛らしく、どうしても絵を描いておきたかったというのもある。本当にディスプレイがうまい。
